Huh, here's what a weekend of dancing and stuff can do for you after months of exercising and trying to eat right ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, [livejournal.com profile] prncsmoonbeam, and [livejournal.com profile] weaselmom, you won't believe it but I've given up chocolate): I checked my weight this morning and it's now officially about 20 lbs. lighter than my heaviest from last winter: 186. Wow. I didn't realize I had that much to lose - especially because I feel I have another 10 lbs. or so to go, dammit - but it sure feels good to be getting fit. Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chernobylred and [livejournal.com profile] worldforger for encouraging the effort and leading by example!

okay, well it's hard to not say that I hate you, but congrats -- that's a hard one, especially when you sit in front a computer for the whole day (and since I do that where you used to work, we both know about that...)

How's the wip coming? Got anything done since Kij got home?

That's a biggie - ye olde Evile Empyre hit me with 10 lbs. on the first month, and then the stress and time-sink that prevented exercise, and the Friday food-and-beer bashes, and.... Yeah, I have to give credit to a low-stress lifestyle, as well. I still sit in front of the computer all day, but it's no longer ruling my body!

Wahoo!!

Now you can turn around and inspire others (like around next June).

...you won't believe it but I've given up chocolate

But, then, what is the point?

Yeah! You'll have some fun with that, I'm sure >g<

re: Chocolate. Heh. Yeah, well, I've discovered that being away from it for a few weeks makes the lust for it kinda just go away. Odd, that.

That's one of the things I noticed when I was diagnosed as a type II diabetic a couple of years ago -- chocolate tasted different to me by that point. A little more bland, almost bitter in some respects. After getting my blood sugar under control, chocolate tastes normal again, and nowadays, there are plenty of sugar-substitute chocolates around, so I can still get the hit when I have the jones for it.

Yeah, I know. It kinda makes me cringe to think I had that much to lose. I was never a heavy guy, feh, though the numbers would seem to suggest that I indeed was for a couple of years. Good-bye to all that.

Congratulations on losing 20 lbs. It's hard giving up sweets. I know I lost 10 lbs last summer (03) just giving up pop. I lost another 70 on Atkins. Still haven't managed to get into an exercise routine, but I'm trying to be more active. I could probably stand to lose a little more myself, but I've just been coasting the last few months.

Anyway, keep up the good work and good luck ...

Thanks! Wow, I'm thoroughly impressed by your progress - I can hardly feel smug after hearing that. I'm not an exercise fiend, but I do try to do at least one set of exercises every day.

You too!

Congrats on getting leaner and fitter! It's not easy, but it's so worth it -- but chocolate? ;^) Seriously, good for you! I'm about 40 pounds lighter than my all-time high, but I've still got a ways to go, so I know all about the exercising and trying to eat right.

Thanks! Well, chocolate (or cookies, now that I think of it...) was my only real no-no. I accidentally had some in my airport trail mix today, and it tasted yummy and all that, but I felt pleased that it was only a few M&Ms.

Congrats on your leanness victory! Wow, that's impressive. I hope to hit my goal and stay there. Plus keep improving fitness-wise.

Way to go! I can kinda-sorta believe you gave up chocolate* because you have talked about the active interest you are taking in your health. I bet you look terrific in The Pants (and I offer that up purely in a sisterly-congratulatory way, of course). You're a great inspiration!

*Now I guess it's a good thing you never got that "Sweets Keep Me Up" tattoo.

Weeeeee!

I'll likely be wearing them thangs more soon, so we'll see (I like how they keep the legs warm when riding two-wheelers in the winter). The students seem to get a kick out of it, with responses ranging from, "Are you a rock star now?" (hardee har har) to glances at ze buttocks region, which I must say is a bit uncomfortable depending on what expressions follow said glances.

Glad to be an inspiration! It was tough getting started, but got easier as I made new habits, I guess.

Hugs!

Looking Good!

Keep on with the daily bicycle work, till the winters cold almost freezes it off.
NB: Change modes of transport before injuring anything important. ;^)

Re: Looking Good!

We also have the stationary bike, which is handy for days when it's too hot to bike to work (sweaty not=cool for teaching) or too cold or rainy. Or snowy. Or I need to run to the EightOneFive after work or something.
